HUIBERT BOON

SOUND DESIGN, FOLEY & SYNTHESIS

Acousmatics is the company of Huibert Boon, an award winning sounddesigner and re-recordingmixer for Film, TV, Radio, Podcasts and Multi-media Installations. He worked on hundreds of projects, ranging from feature films, documentaries, radiodrama, and both small- and largescale multichannel-installations and performances in Europe, USA, South-America, Asia and Australia.

In 2008 he founded Acousmatics alongside the partnership 'Boon & Booy' with sound designer Alex Booy which was followed-up as Aga Aga-studio's together with Jaim Sahuleka in 2015.
In 2008 and 2019 he was awarded with 2 Golden Kalffs for Best Sounddesign in a feature-film at the Dutch Film Festival.
In 2024 the binaural drama-podcast series for which he did ambisonics location-sound as well as immersive sounddesign and mix, won 2 Dutch Podcast Awards for 'Best Fiction Podcast' and 'innovation'

SOUND DESIGN

HYBRID & IMMERSIVE

I'm not a sound-purist. I don't believe that analog is better than digital or vice versa, or that there is just one proper way to design sound. Sure: some workflows have proven to be reliable and efficient and be creative along the way. And I gladly follow these paths depending on the project. But whenever possible, I like to deviate in a HYBRID way: combining the digital with the analog, where math meets electricity, using (and abusing) analog tape, mics and modular synths to extend sound design. Call it nerdy: I won't be offended.

One of the developments I'm focussing on is IMMERSIVE AUDIO, the next step in the multi-dimensional approach to audio storytelling that goes beyond traditional surround sound. Immersive audio adds an extra spatial layer that creates a 3 dimensional sonic field that encaptulates the listener. And not just in a large multi-speaker theaterenvironment, but also as binaural 2 channel audio on plain stereo headphones.
